Rain and Hail Likely in Himachal from June 11 as Orange Alert Issued

Himachal Pradesh is bracing for a spell of intense weather, with heavy rain, hailstorms, and gusty winds expected to hit several parts of the state between June 11 and June 14.

According to the Meteorological Department, a fresh Western Disturbance is set to impact the Western Himalayan region starting June 11, bringing a sudden shift in weather conditions.

Orange Alert for Key Districts

An orange alert has been issued for Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, and Sirmaur for June 11. These districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall, along with hailstorms, lightning, and strong winds in some areas.

Residents in these regions are being advised to stay alert, especially in vulnerable areas prone to landslides or sudden weather changes.

Thunderstorms, Heat Wave Warnings in Other Areas

At the same time, a yellow alert has been sounded for districts like Solan, Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, and Chamba. These areas may see light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Interestingly, while some parts of the state prepare for rain, others are still dealing with heat. A separate heat wave alert has been issued for Solan, Una, and Bilaspur for June 10, where temperatures are expected to remain uncomfortably high in isolated pockets.

Temperatures to Dip Soon

The good news is that the incoming weather system is expected to bring some relief from the heat. Maximum temperatures across the state are likely to drop by 3°C to 6°C over the next few days, offering a welcome break after warm conditions.

Weather So Far: Calm Before the Change

Over the past 24 hours, the weather in Himachal has remained largely dry, with only light rainfall in isolated areas.

Temperature-wise, conditions have been fairly normal:

  • Minimum temperatures ranged between 5°C and 26°C
  • Maximum temperatures ranged between 21°C and 40°C

Una recorded the highest temperature at a scorching 40.6°C, making it the hottest place in the state. On the other end, Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti remained the coldest, with a minimum temperature of 5.3°C.

Stay Prepared

With changing weather patterns and alerts in place, residents and travelers are advised to keep an eye on updates, avoid unnecessary travel during extreme conditions, and take precautions against lightning and strong winds.

As Himachal transitions from dry weather to a more active monsoon-like phase, the coming days are expected to bring both relief and challenges across the hills.
