34 Defence Personnel Completed 16-Week DGR-Sponsored Training Programme at Agriversity

Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSKHPKV), Palampur today concluded its 16-week Directorate General Resettlement (DGR)-sponsored training programme on Agroforestry, Mushroom Cultivation, Beekeeping and Goatry for defence personnel. The programme was aimed at equipping serving Armed Forces personnel with technical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills to enable them to establish sustainable agriculture-based enterprises after their retirement.

A total of 34 defence personnel, comprising 23 from the Indian Army, 9 from the Indian Navy and 2 from the Indian Air Force, successfully completed the training programme, which commenced on March 09, 2026. During the 16-week course, participants received intensive theoretical and practical training in agroforestry, mushroom cultivation, scientific beekeeping and goat farming through classroom lectures, field demonstrations, practical sessions and exposure visits.

The valedictory function was chaired by Associate Director of Extension Education, Dr. Janardhan Singh, who congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the programme. In his address, he highlighted the immense potential of agriculture and allied sectors in generating sustainable livelihoods and encouraged the trainees to utilize the technical knowledge acquired during the course to establish profitable agri-based enterprises after their service career. He also distributed certificates to all the participants in recognition of their successful completion of the training programme.

University NCC Officer Dr. Ankur Sharma welcomed the participants and dignitaries and appreciated the enthusiasm and dedication shown by the trainees throughout the programme. He also highlighted the university’s continued commitment to supporting defence personnel through specialized DGR-sponsored capacity-building initiatives.

Dr. Lav Bhushan, Course Incharge, presented a comprehensive overview of the training programme. He elaborated on the various modules covered, including modern agroforestry practices, scientific mushroom cultivation, commercial beekeeping, goat farming, entrepreneurship development, value addition, exposure visits and hands-on practical training. He also shared the positive feedback received from the participants regarding the quality and practical orientation of the programme.

The concluding session was attended by university statutory officers, Heads of Departments, scientists of the Directorate of Extension Education, training coordinators, faculty members and other university officials, who interacted with the participants and extended their best wishes for their future entrepreneurial pursuits.
