Himachal Govt Schools Enforce 75% Attendance Rule to Boost Learning Standards

In a move aimed at improving the quality of education and bringing more discipline into classrooms, the Himachal Pradesh Education Department has made it mandatory for students in government schools to maintain at least 75 percent physical attendance.

As per the new directive, this requirement will apply separately to both theory classes and practical sessions. Students who fail to meet this minimum attendance will not be allowed to appear in their annual examinations, making regular school attendance more important than ever.

The order was issued by the State Directorate of School Education to all Deputy Directors across secondary, primary, and quality education departments. Schools have been instructed to actively monitor attendance and ensure transparency. To keep everyone informed, institutions will now display monthly attendance shortages on notice boards and send timely warnings to parents or guardians if a student’s attendance falls short.

Officials from the Directorate highlighted that irregular attendance has been a major reason behind declining academic performance. By strictly enforcing attendance rules, the department hopes to improve learning outcomes and overall academic standards.

Deputy Directors have been asked to ensure that Principals and Headmasters follow these guidelines strictly. The department has called this matter one of high priority, urging senior officials to personally oversee its implementation. It has also made it clear that any negligence or failure to comply could lead to disciplinary action.

This step reflects the government’s focus on strengthening the education system by encouraging consistency in learning and ensuring that students actively participate in their academic journey.
