Flames Ravage Kasauli’s Heritage Market, Shops Reduced to Ashes
In the stillness of early Monday morning, chaos erupted in Kasauli’s bustling Heritage Market when a massive fire tore through its tightly packed shops. Within minutes, the blaze consumed at least seven establishments, while a series of gas cylinder explosions sent shockwaves through the hill town.
The fire, suspected to have started around 3:30 AM in a café, spread rapidly through the narrow lanes and congested structures. Officials believe a short circuit may have triggered the disaster, though a detailed probe is underway.
As the inferno raged, between 12 and 14 gas cylinders exploded, intensifying the flames and heightening the danger for firefighters and nearby residents. Three fire tenders battled for hours to contain the blaze, but the cramped layout of the market slowed their progress.
Among the gutted shops were popular outlets selling momos, toys, garments, and everyday goods. The café believed to be the origin point was also reduced to rubble. Thankfully, no lives were lost, but the financial damage is expected to be heavy.
Local authorities have begun assessing the losses and investigating the cause. The incident has reignited concerns about fire safety in hill town markets, where crowded layouts and limited infrastructure often leave communities vulnerable.
