Van Mahotsav celebrated in Nauni University , 4000 saplings to be planted in the campus

For the last few weeks, plantation drive has been started at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry , Nauni. On Saturday, Van Mahotsav program was celebrated at the Model Farm of the University in which the staff and students of the University participated enthusiastically and planted trees of different species which would provide food throughout the year to the bees and other friendly insects which play an important role in pollination.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel said that tree plantation is the moral responsibility of every citizen. He informed that the Van Mahotsav is being celebrated by the University for the last one month and saplings have been planted on different days by all the departments, NCC Cadets and Life Mission in the campus and the target of planting 4000 saplings on 12-13 hectares of land will be accomplished. He urged everyone to make Van Mahotsav a part of their life and urged everyone especially the students to be a continuous part of such social work. Professor Chandel said that tree plantation is very important for our nature because trees have to be cut for many necessary development activities. He appealed to the students to make small efforts for the protection of nature. He said that due to the threat of climate change, the importance of activities like Van Mahotsav has increased. He urged the students and staff to adopt and take care of every sapling planted by them.

Earlier, Director Research asked everyone to adopt the slogan ‘ Ek Ped Desh Ke Naam ‘ and explained about the direct and indirect benefits of tree plantation. He talked about the contribution of planned tree plantation to mitigating climate change and carbon sequestration . Dr. DR Bhardwaj, HOD, Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, gave brief information about the Van Mahotsav and various activities undertaken by the university under this initiative. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Anil Sood. This year Van Mahotsav will be celebrated in the university till Parmar Jayanti and 4000 saplings will be planted in the main campus. In this campaign, saplings of Yellow Gulmohar , Shisham , Khair , Paja , Tuni , Jacaranda etc. were planted. Apart from this, the Regional Stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the University also organized Van Mahotsav at their respective stations. Students, scientists and staff including all statutory officers , representatives from local branches of UCO Bank , SBI and Jogindra Co-operative Bank, scientists from Botanical Survey of India participated in the plantation drive.
