Nalagarh Residents Raise Alarm Over Pollution and Groundwater Depletion
Nalagarh, 30 September 2026: Affected residents of the BBN area staged a demonstration at the Sub-Divisional Headquarters in Nalagarh today, protesting against worsening water and air pollution and the over-extraction of groundwater. They are opposing hazardous, polluting, unplanned and unregulated industrialisation in the region, which they say is harming human and animal health and depleting both groundwater and air quality.
The protest was organised by several local organisations and action committees. Thirty Gram Panchayat presidents, five Zila Parishad members and Panchayat Samiti members were among those present. A memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh was submitted through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Nalagarh.
A public meeting at Kabir Panthi Gurdwara was addressed by Guman Singh, coordinator of Himalaya Niti Abhiyan; Mohan Lal Sharma, president of Hindur Parvarn; Jaskirat Singh of the Public Action Committee, Ludhiana; Ritu Devi, Pradhan of Majra Sangharsh Samiti; and Giyan Singh Thakur, Zila Parishad member.
The gathering was also attended by local MLA Baba Hardeep Singh and former MLAs B. K. Thakur and Lakhabinder Rana, who addressed the public gathering outside the Sub-Divisional Office.
