Congress Cracks Down on Rebel Candidates Ahead of Civic Polls
State Congress President Vinay Kumar on Monday sent out a firm message to party leaders and workers ahead of the upcoming municipal corporation elections, urging discipline and unity within the organisation. He appealed to Congress members contesting the four municipal corporation polls as independent candidates—despite the party having officially announced its nominees—to withdraw their candidature in support of the party’s authorised candidates.
Vinay Kumar made it clear that the party’s decision is final and binding on everyone. “In any political party, the organisation comes first. The decisions taken by the organisation are supreme and must be respected,” he said, warning that strict disciplinary action will be taken against those who defy the party line, in accordance with party rules.
At the same time, the state Congress chief struck a reassuring note for committed workers. He said that party members who perform well in municipal corporation, Panchayati Raj, and other local body elections will be recognised and rewarded within the organisation through special honours.
Highlighting that the Congress is currently governing the state, Vinay Kumar said the government, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, is focused on public welfare and development. He called upon party officials and workers to carry out their election-related duties with sincerity, dedication, and honesty.
To ensure smooth coordination and strict monitoring, Vinay Kumar informed that the Election War Room set up at the state Congress headquarters will actively track election-related developments. He said regular reports would be submitted to him, ensuring close oversight of the party’s performance and discipline during the civic polls.
