Youth Should Remain Connected to Folk Culture and Traditions: Anurag Thakur

Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency, Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, attended Jhankaar – The Presidential Fest, organized to commemorate the historic victory of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Punjab University. Amidst the cultural program, he encouraged and interacted with young colleagues, conveying the message to the youth to remain connected to Indian folk culture and traditions.

Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur said, “Whether it is Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, or Uttarakhand, we all are the SaptaSindhu of Mother India. Whether it is Giddha, Bhangra, or Nati, or Uttarakhand’s Chholia dance, Pandav dance – all these are part of that great SaptaSindhu culture. India’s strength lies in its diverse cultures and traditions. Such cultural events connect the youth with their roots and provide them with an opportunity to understand the country’s cultural heritage. Mutual dialogue among the country’s youth in culture, politics, or parliamentary traditions is an auspicious sign, and the developed India we talk about today cannot be achieved without the participation of the youth.”

Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur said, “Modiji has resolved to bring one lakh capable youth into the active politics of the country. I believe that all of you should also be among that one lakh youth because you have the vision, the mission, and the dedication. I have also started a leadership/fellowship training program named ‘Yuva Changemaker’ for the youth of Himachal, for which more than ten thousand registrations have been done so far. Whatever youth are selected in this program, we will provide them Leadership training. This is part of a larger goal for the benefit of Himachal, so that the youth of Himachal can determine the narrative of Himachal’s development and come into leadership roles.”

During the program, several traditional performances showcasing Himachali culture were also presented. These included Himachali Nati, Sirmauri Nati, Kinnauri Nati, as well as Ladakhi and Manipuri dances. Colorful traditional attire and folk tunes made the atmosphere even more attractive. On this occasion, Mr. Sudhir Sharma, MLA from Dharamshala, was also present as a distinguished guest. The event was organized in collaboration with ABVP and the Punjab University Campus Students’ Council.
