The sweet rhythm of tabla resonated in the valley of Dharech
The Summer Tabla Carnival, held over the past week at Gurukul in the village of Dharech, Kasupanti constituency, has successfully concluded. This marked the fourth edition of the annual Tabla camp, drawing 45 dedicated Tabla practitioners and music enthusiasts from across India. The camp was led by renowned Tabla maestro Vikram Gandharva, who shared that a new guitar training camp began yesterday and will run until June 18, with Puneet Janot from Chandigarh serving as the resource person.
Vikram Gandharva emphasized that the primary goal of the camp is to preserve the rich tradition of Tabla and foster a deeper connection between younger generations and classical music. Participants not only immersed themselves in the art of Tabla but also enjoyed the serene mountain landscapes, tranquil environment, and vibrant local culture. Gurukul has truly become a living embodiment of the harmony between music and nature.
Throughout the camp, workshops were held on various gharanas, talas, and Tabla techniques, alongside intensive practice sessions focused on accompaniment with vocalists and other instrumentalists. These experiences provided participants with a taste of live performance and nurtured their understanding of musical collaboration. The camp culminated in a series of outstanding performances that captivated both local residents and music lovers.
On the final day, Hetram Gandharva, the local Panchayat Pradhan, honored the top performers with certificates and mementos.
