Weather Turns Unsettled Across Himachal, More Rain and Storms Ahead from May 11 to 13
Several parts of Himachal Pradesh experienced a change in weather on Thursday, with light rainfall in some areas and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in others, according to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla.
Places such as Shimla, Jubberhatti, Sundernagar, Jot, Kangra and Bhuntar reported thunderstorm activity, bringing brief but intense spells of rain and gusty conditions.
Rainfall data recorded over the 24-hour period ending at 4 pm on Wednesday showed Sarahan in Sirmaur district receiving the highest precipitation at 20 mm. It was followed by Amb with 13.4 mm, Rohru with 12 mm, Pandoh with 11 mm, Kasol with 9 mm, Mandi with 6.4 mm, Sujanpur Tira with 6 mm, Jot with 5.6 mm and Ghamroor with 4.2 mm.
Looking ahead, the Shimla Meteorological Office has forecast light rain and snowfall in the mid and higher hill regions on Friday. A more widespread wet spell is expected from Monday onwards, as a fresh western disturbance is likely to impact the western Himalayan region starting Sunday.
The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for isolated places in the state from May 11 to 13, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour.
Temperature variations across the state remained noticeable. Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district recorded the lowest night temperature at 3.6 degrees Celsius, while Una emerged as the hottest place during the day with a maximum temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius.
According to the Met office, minimum temperatures are expected to remain largely stable over the next three to four days. However, maximum temperatures may gradually increase by two to five degrees Celsius across many parts of the state during this period, indicating warmer days ahead despite intermittent weather activity.
