Water crisis mounts in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh HC takes cognizance 

The water crisis in this capital town and state has mounted again forcing Himachal Pradesh High court to take cognizance on the matter seeking reply from the court over not maintaining supply properly after gap of one days even. The matter figured in the Division bench of Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and justice Chander Bhushan Bariwala on Monday and also listed in another PIL (2235/2018) today sought reply from the Shimla Mincipal Corporation, Jal Shakti Vibhag and state government. The court fixed the hearing now on Jun  22, 2022 as the AdvocateGeneral Ashok Sharma requested the bench to grant a week time to file a comprehensive proposal regarding equitable distribution of drinking water in Shimla. Hearing the matter on issue  bench have said that town if town required 47 million leader per day (MLD) supply for Shimla town and it is getting only 32 MLD against the shortfall why it could not maintaining rationing supply after gap of one days keeping supply of water. The counsel cum Petitioner Vijay Arora contended before the bench that the water crisis is being mounted artificial as number of Hospitality units were being provided five to seven additional domestic water connection should be need be checked. The bench asked the state and SMC to submit reply over this matter by today. The department sources said that around 870 water supply scheme out of total 9500 water supply scheme in the state are affected in the summer season creating chaotic state of affairs. State government decided to waived off Water charge in the ruler area from June 2, 2022 but most of rural water supply scheme are affected mostly sorrounding in the capital town. People are relying to get waters from Bawaris in the outskirts which was closed down after polluting of natural resources of water after leakage of swerage water in such sources by Shimla MC in 2017.
