Vikramaditya Singh Hits the Ground in Mandi with a Development Promise for MC Polls

It was a busy Friday in Mandi as Vikramaditya Singh, Himachal’s PWD and Urban Development Minister, hit the streets to rally support for Congress candidates in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections. But instead of loud slogans or political mudslinging, his message was simple and clear: development first.

Speaking to a small gathering of locals and later to the press, Singh didn’t hold back. “Mandi’s growth will be our only election plank,” he said, his tone firm but hopeful. “We’re not here to make empty promises. The Congress party is fully committed to upgrading basic amenities, building better infrastructure, and transforming not just the town but also the areas around it.”

He took a moment to praise the party’s candidates, calling them “the best we have—people with solid political and social backgrounds.” As the election in-charge, he assured everyone, “I will leave no stone unturned to ensure our candidates win. From Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to central leaders, former ministers like Kaul Singh Thakur and Prakash Chaudhary, and every worker in Mandi district—everyone will jump into this campaign wholeheartedly.”

Singh then pulled out what he called a “commitment paper” for the Mandi Municipal Corporation, standing flanked by all the Congress candidates. “This isn’t just a piece of paper,” he said. “We’ve already sanctioned projects worth ₹180 crore for Mandi. And just recently, the Union Ministry of Urban Development approved another ₹1200 crore. That’s real money coming in.”

He went on to list the tangible plans: a ₹25 crore overhaul of the bus stand, a 20-km-long covered canopy walk around the town, a bailey bridge to Trilokinath Temple, better parking facilities, and the Indira Market project to fix the sewerage system. “This will help shopkeepers and the public alike,” he added. “Work will begin right after the elections.”

For the people of Mandi, it felt less like a speech and more like a roadmap. And Vikramaditya Singh seemed determined to see it through.
