Vande Mataram should be made a part of the daily routine in every school in the state and country
BJP State Vice President and MLA Vipin Parmar, addressing a press conference, said that India is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the national anthem Vande Mataram with joy and enthusiasm. He said that Vande Mataram should be made a part of the daily routine in every school in the state and country.
He said that the Congress Party, in order to appease the Muslim League, prevented the full implementation of Vande Mataram, cutting out several verses from the song. This reflects the Congress party’s true thinking. What the British failed to do (banning the song), the Congress party did. He said that the Congress removed a portion of “Vande Mataram” to appease a particular community.
He said that in 1937, the Congress Working Committee had decided that only the first two verses of the song, which originally had five verses, would be sung.
Vipin Parmar said that Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar was invited to sing Vande Mataram at the 1923 Congress session in Kakinada, but that year’s Congress President, Maulana Mohammad Ali, objected on religious grounds, stating that music is forbidden in Islam. To appease Muslim League leaders, the Congress Working Committee decided to officially change the national song in 1937. Later, on numerous occasions, the Congress and its leaders demonstrated their intolerance towards Vande Mataram on various platforms. In 2017, AIMIM leader Mr. Akbaruddin Owaisi demanded the revocation of the circular making Vande Mataram compulsory for students in schools. The Telangana government has now stated that Vande Mataram will not be made compulsory in schools. In 2019, the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh banned the singing of Vande Mataram in the Secretariat.
He said that the BJP will organize a mass singing of Vande Mataram in each parliamentary constituency at 11:00 a.m. on November 7. These programs will be held at Ambedkar Chowk in Shimla, Vidhan Sabha Kangra in the Kangra parliamentary constituency, Kallu in Mandi, and Hamirpur.
He said that on October 1, 2025, the Union Cabinet decided to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the national anthem “Vande Mataram” across the country. Considering the song’s significant role in the freedom struggle, it was decided to organize nationwide events to commemorate its 150th anniversary.
He said that the song was composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875. A famous recitation of “Vande Mataram” was given by Rabindranath Tagore in Kolkata in 1896. (By the time of the Partition of Bengal in 1905, the poem had been set to the classical raga Desh Malhar and had become popular as an inspirational morning song.) India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, declared “Vande Mataram” the national anthem in 1950. During the nationwide protests against Partition, “Vande Mataram” became a powerful symbol of nationalism, unity, and resistance against British rule. Due to its strong national sentiment and inspiring impact, the British government had banned its use. “Vande Mataram” became the central slogan of the Swadeshi movement and served as an inspiration for revolutionaries like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh, and Subhas Chandra Bose.
