Shimla Municipal Corporation Officer’s Death: Police Step Up Probe, Family Seeks Fair Investigation
The police have intensified their investigation into the death of Rameshwar Sharma, Deputy Controller (Finance) posted in the Shimla Municipal Corporation, after he was found hanging at his residence in Mehli under suspicious circumstances. The case has sparked concern both within the department and among family members, who are calling for a transparent and impartial inquiry.
Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek said that an FIR had already been registered in the matter and the investigation is progressing steadily. He clarified that the suicide note recovered from the spot does not name or accuse any individual. “So far, the note does not point fingers at anyone. However, the investigation is continuing from all angles,” he said.
Family members of the deceased have raised serious questions surrounding the circumstances leading to his death. Kishan Sharma, the deceased’s brother-in-law, described Rameshwar as a strong-willed and determined person. “He was not someone who would take such a drastic step over a minor issue,” he said. Kishan Sharma suggested that his brother-in-law may have been under heavy professional or internal mental pressure at the time.
Referring to the suicide note, he said only two words—‘service depression’ and ‘mental pressure’—were mentioned, pointing towards stress related to work or personal struggles. “These words indicate that he was under pressure. That is why we are demanding a fair and unbiased investigation, and strict action against anyone found responsible,” he added.
Rameshwar Sharma, around 45 years old, was found hanging at his home on Friday afternoon. According to police officials, his wife and son were not present at the time of the incident. Originally from Seema village in Rohru, Sharma had joined the Shimla Municipal Corporation as an Accounts Officer only last year. Prior to this, he had served in the Panchayati Raj Department and several other government departments.
Police said they received information via Control Room 112 that a man had been brought to IGMC Shimla for treatment, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Municipal Corporation officials revealed that Sharma had reached his office as usual on Friday morning, completed some official work, and then unexpectedly took half‑day leave before returning home.
As investigations continue, the case has highlighted concerns around workplace stress and mental health among government employees. The family has urged authorities to ensure justice through a thorough and transparent probe, while police officials have assured that all aspects of the case are being carefully examined.
