Preliminary accident report of Mandi bus accident received: Transport Minister

Transport Minister Bikram Singh said here today that the preliminary report of the Mandi bus accident that took place on 4th April, 2022 has been received. The cause of the accident was cited in the report as human error. He said that District Magistrate, Mandi has been directed to conduct thorough investigation of the incident.

He said that every fault given by the driver was repaired in the workshop on 2 April and on 3 April 2022 the bus was deployed on Shimla-Manali route. Each spare part was available in stock to repair defects given by the driver in the workshop.

The Transport Minister said that the bus accident in Chamba was due to a short circuit in the battery wires near the fuel supply pipe. No one lost life in this accident.

He said that immediate interim relief was provided to the next of kin of the deceased and injured in the Mandi bus accident. An amount of Rs.25 thousand each was given to the family of the deceased driver and the family of the deceased person (passenger) by the Transport Corporation and an immediate relief of Rs.1.31 lakh was given to the other injured.

The Transport Corporation is bearing the full cost of the treatment of the injured passengers and under the policy of the Transport Corporation, provision is being made to provide job to the wife of the deceased driver immediately.

The Transport Minister said that the allegations leveled by the Sanyukt Samayvanvay Morcha on the Transport Corporation are not based on facts. At present, there is no shortage of mechanics with the Transport Corporation for the repair of parts and buses. The Peace Meal workers of the workshop have been brought on contract by the Transport Corporation recently due to which the maintenance of the buses has enhanced.

 He said that corporation procures spare parts directly from the vehicle manufacturing companies. He said that the irresponsible statement of the Sanyukt Samayvanvay Morcha has adversely affected the morale of the passengers and staff. He said that the Transport Corporation is committed to provide quality transport services to the people of the state. State Government is taking time bound necessary steps for the welfare of the employees of the corporation.
