Koti College professors wore black badges in protest against the employee appointment bill

On the call of Himachal Pradesh Government College Professors Association (HGCTA), the local unit of Government College Chail Koti also protested on Friday by wearing black badges and holding gate meetings against the ‘Himachal Pradesh Government Employees Appointment and Service Conditions Bill 2024’ brought by the Himachal Pradesh Government. The unit president Dr. Ajay Kwath said that the college lecturers appointed on contract basis have fought a long battle since 2009 and have received justice from the Hon’ble High Court Shimla. In its decision, the court has given the decision to give all the benefits including seniority to the employees from the first appointment. It was told that some lecturers have already got these benefits but most of the lecturers have not got these benefits yet.
He said that the state government has done a grave injustice to this class by bringing the anti-employee bill. This bill was brought with the intention of making it applicable from 12 December 2003 so that the employees do not have to be given this benefit from the date of appointment including the contract call. He said that when the state government had implemented the old pension scheme, the College Professors Association had welcomed it and it seemed that this government would protect the interests of the employees. But the state government is taking anti-employee decisions one after the other. The decisions include giving only 40% salary to lecturers going on study leave and keeping guest faculty on period basis etc. Himachal Pradesh Government College Professors Association has demanded the government to withdraw this bill. Unit Secretary Dr. Amrit Mehta and Treasurer Inder Negi said that if this bill is not withdrawn, the College Professors Association will be forced to adopt the path of struggle along with other employee organizations of the state and the entire responsibility for this will be of the state government. State unit treasurer Dr. Devendra Sharma has condemned the bill.
