Kinnaur Hosts First-Ever Ice Sculpture Workshop to Boost Tourism and Creativity
In a groundbreaking initiative, a three-day ice sculpture workshop kicked off in Rakchham Gram Panchayat of Kinnaur district. Organized under the joint supervision of the District Administration Kinnaur, the Language and Culture Department, and the Science Department, this unique workshop aims to blend art, creativity, and skill while promoting tourism and employment opportunities in the region.
Deputy Commissioner Kinnaur, Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma, inaugurated the workshop, highlighting its significance as the first of its kind in the district. He stated that the workshop aims to impart ice sculpture-making skills to local youth, especially those associated with the hotel business, ITBP group, and state college teams. Dr. Sharma emphasized that this initiative would not only open up employment avenues but also enhance tourism activities in Kinnaur.
The workshop features an expert team from Delhi, renowned for representing India in the prestigious World Ice Sculpture Competition. Trainers Sunil Kuswaha, Ravi Prakash, Rajneesh Verma, and Muhammad Sultan Alam from Abhyuday Dal are leading the sessions, imparting skills to five local teams.
The event saw the presence of several prominent dignitaries, including Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shekhar, ITBP Assistant Commandant Jitendra Alam Bihal, Assistant Conservator of Forests Karan Kapoor, SDM Kalpa Dr. Major Shashank Gupta, Tehsildar Sangla Hardyal Singh, and Rakchham Gram Panchayat Head Sunil Negi.
This first-of-its-kind workshop is expected to serve as a perfect example of how traditional art forms can blend with modern creativity to uplift local communities and boost tourism.
