Farmers and Apple Growers Association Rally in Jubbal, Demand Justice and Land Rights
Under the banner of the Himachal Kisan Sabha and the Apple Growers’ Association, hundreds of farmers—men, women, youth, and elders—gathered outside the Jubbal Tehsil office today, raising their voices for justice. For nearly four hours, they sat in protest, determined to make their demands heard.
This demonstration marks the latest chapter in their ongoing struggle, following a memorandum submitted on February 11, 2025, against forced evictions and home demolitions, and a massive ‘Vidhan Sabha March’ on March 20. Their fight is for survival—for land, for homes, and for dignity.
A Cry for Justice
Led by Sanjay Chauhan (state executive member of the Apple Growers’ Association) and local leaders like Jay Singh Jehata, Krishan Kumar, and Sanjay Kumar, the protesters handed over a fresh memorandum to the authorities, urging the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister to act before it’s too late.
What Do They Want?
The demands are simple but urgent:
- Stop evictions and home demolitions immediately.
- Legalize farmers’ possession of up to 5 bighas of land.
- Amend the Forest Conservation Act (1980) to allow small farmers to retain up to 10 bighas.
- Properly enforce the Forest Rights Act (2006) to protect tribal and rural land rights.
- Pay 4x compensation for land taken for roads and hydro projects.
- Compensate families who lost homes and land due to construction.
- Provide homeless Dalit and poor families with 2-3 biswa of land for shelter.
A Movement Growing Stronger
This isn’t just about policies—it’s about people’s lives. With each protest, the farmers’ resolve hardens. They’ve marched, they’ve petitioned, and now they’re sitting in defiance, refusing to back down.
