Horticulture Minister Jagat Negi releases Book on Avocado cultivation

Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi today released the book titled ‘Opportunity and Challenges of Avocado Farming in Himachal Pradesh’ written by Deepak Singha, an expert in the cultivation of stone Fruit. He has written this book after doing in-depth research and a detailed study on Avocado cultivation.

Horticulture Minister praised the work of Deepak Singha and said that avocado cultivation would help strengthening the economy of the farmers in a big way. The state government will consider including avocado cultivation under Integrated Horticulture Development Mission or HP Shiva Project so that more and more people can be attracted towards it. He said that the nutritional value of avocado was very good, which increases the immunity of body and controls heart diseases, cholesterol and diabetes.

Deepak Singha said that avocado can be cultivated in the subtropical (south-tropical) areas of the state, Hamirpur, Kangra, Una, and the lower areas of Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur. The price of the avocado variety ‘Mexican Hass’ can fetch upto Rs 500 per kg. The demand for the stone fruit increased after COVID due to its nutritional value, he said.
