Congress Slams Centre Over Rising Prices, Job Crisis and Unfulfilled Promises

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Congress President Vinay Kumar has strongly criticized the BJP-led central government, alleging that the past 12 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been marked by rising inflation and growing unemployment.

Reacting to the BJP’s celebrations marking the Prime Minister’s 12-year tenure, Kumar said that many of the promises made to the public remain unfulfilled. He pointed out that the promise of providing LPG cylinders at ₹450 has not materialized, with prices now soaring to nearly ₹1,100. He also highlighted the steep rise in petrol and diesel prices, saying it has put a heavy burden on common people.

Raising concerns about unemployment, Kumar said the promise of creating 2 crore jobs annually has not been met. “If this commitment had been fulfilled, millions of young people would not be struggling for employment today,” he remarked.

The Congress leader also voiced concern over the situation of apple growers in Himachal Pradesh. He said the Centre had assured protection for the state’s apple economy, but growers are now facing serious challenges. According to him, reduced import duties on foreign apples have intensified competition, leaving local farmers struggling to recover even their production costs.

Kumar further criticized what he described as increasing privatization, alleging that public sector units are being sold at low prices to benefit select industrialists. He also accused the central government of weakening democratic institutions and misusing investigative agencies.

The Congress leader’s remarks come amid ongoing political exchanges between the BJP and Congress, as both parties continue to spar over governance, development, and the state of the economy.
