AIDWA demands CBI probe into mysterious death of nursing student in Himachal

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in Mandi has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the tragic and suspicious death of a 21-year-old B.Sc. Nursing student at Aaroma College in Sundernagar, Himachal Pradesh. The young woman reportedly fell from her hostel terrace under puzzling circumstances in the early hours of October 23, 2024, leaving her family and the local community seeking answers.

AIDWA, in a formal letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, has raised questions about the college’s account, casting doubt on the events surrounding her death. The college claimed the student was on the terrace at 2 a.m. to collect clothes—an explanation that has not satisfied her family or supporters. AIDWA pointed out that it is unclear why anyone would be on the terrace at such an hour and why others were notified so promptly of her fall, suggesting that further investigation is warranted.

Concerns intensified when it was revealed that the hostel warden contacted the victim’s aunt, using the student’s locked phone, instead of notifying her immediate family. The victim’s father observed several odd details, including a damp hospital bed and additional head injuries that were not accounted for. Furthermore, when the family visited her hostel room later, they discovered alcohol bottles, cigarette packets, and a letter, deepening their suspicion that the circumstances of her death may involve a broader conspiracy.

AIDWA has also questioned the police’s approach to the case, pointing out that the student’s room was not sealed and seeking clarity on whether an FIR was registered. The college’s reported claim that CCTV cameras were turned off during the incident has only fueled concerns of possible institutional negligence.

To uphold transparency and accountability, AIDWA is advocating for a high-level judicial inquiry led by a High Court judge. They have also demanded that key college officials, including the principal and hostel warden, be restricted from leaving until the investigation is complete. The case has ignited public outrage and underscored the urgent need for robust policies to protect student safety on campus, with AIDWA and the family standing united in their pursuit of justice.
