Finger print training completed at State Forensic Science Laboratory, Junga

The fingerprint training program, which had been ongoing for the past month at the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Junga, concluded on Wednesday. Ten police investigation officers from different districts of the state participated in the training. Dr. Meenakshi Mahajan, Director of Forensic Services, stated that the investigation officers were trained to collect fingerprints from crime scenes, analyze them, and prove them in court. Furthermore, the police investigation officers were briefed on the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System, the Morpho Enrolment software application, the Identification of Prisoners Act, 1972, and the new Criminal Procedure (Identification) Act, 2022.
Apart from this, training was given on types of finger prints like search, record prisoner and sample slip, different types of finger print slips, finger print photography, types of powder used to enhance invisible and accidental marks, precautions while preparing fingerprint slip, importance of fingerprint, what are search, record, prison and sample slips, training on fingerprints of suspect, convict, acquitted and traced persons, Morpho enrolment software application.
Dr. Meenakshi Mahajan informed that training was also given on the role of enrolment used in all the districts of Himachal Pradesh, precautions to be taken by the police while preparing slips of persons released from jail, National Fingerprint Number, plastic, visible and blood stained fingerprints.
It is noteworthy that the Proficient sits in the main Proficient branch in the district headquarters from where he enters the record slips of convicted criminals and search slips of accused named in the cases through the NEFIs and Measurement Collection Unit.
Dr. Meenakshi Mahajan said that currently, the National Crime Records Bureau collects and maintains criminal records across India, and each state is directly connected to this bureau through NEFIS and MCU, which identify and match criminal information through fingerprint slips. She said that police investigation officers who have received the one-month training will be able to serve in the district’s efficient branch.
