Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti launched a campaign called India’s Future
Shimla, May 4. With the aim of making the drug de-addiction campaign a mass movement, the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti has launched a campaign called “India’s Future” across the state, which began yesterday in Mandi district. The Samiti’s state secretary, Satyawan Pundir, said the “India’s Future” campaign will focus on issues such as social justice, scientific outlook, self-reliance, climate change, livelihoods, women’s safety, public education, and public health.
He informed that for smooth implementation of this campaign, a joint platform has been formed in which AIPNS and BGVS executive members Sohan Das from Haryana, Joginder Walia from Himachal, Samata’s national convenor Sumitra Chandel, state finance secretary Bhim Singh, founder of Jan Swasthya N.R. Thakur, JJK president Dr Vijay Vishal, Samata state convenor Sunita Bisht, cultural sub-committee in-charge Gajendra Sharma etc have been included.
Satyavan Pundir said that in view of these circumstances, the People’s Science Movement requires an alternative thinking and ideas and will run a public campaign on topics like culture, education, health, employment, livelihood and scientific consciousness with scientific and rational understanding among the general public.
Haryana unit vice president Sohan Das said that the Jan Vigyan Andolan advocates scientific consciousness, equality, social justice, pluralism and people-centric development, whereas at present the entire emphasis is on corporate-centric development, communal polarization, abolition of public services and commercialization of basic services like education and health.
Sumitra Chandel, National Convenor of Samata Sub-Committee, said that privatization of public education and health, increasing unemployment, agriculture and livelihood crisis, decreasing food security, environmental degradation, climate change, and pollution are directly impacting the lives of the poor.
Joginder Walia said that instead of making the country self-reliant, dependence on foreign technology and its imports has increased. Superstition and pseudoscience are being promoted, and scientific consciousness is being attacked.
