Sukhu Slams BJP, Highlights Congress’s Focus on Welfare and Development

At a press conference in Una, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched a sharp attack on the BJP, branding it “Anti-Himachal” for failing to support the state government before the Centre on crucial issues like the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) and disaster relief. He questioned why BJP leaders did not stand with the government when Himachal was fighting for its rightful dues.

Sukhu alleged that during the BJP’s tenure, the state was burdened with ₹76,633 crore debt, worsened by nearly ₹5,000 crore in election-time freebies. Despite receiving far greater funds from the Centre, he said the BJP misused resources, leaving Himachal financially strained. In contrast, he emphasized that the Congress government has focused on “Vyavastha Parivartan”—policy reforms, anti-corruption measures, and welfare schemes such as ₹1,500 monthly assistance for women from underprivileged families, free electricity up to 300 units, and pensions for women above 59 years.

He highlighted progress in education, noting Himachal’s rise from 21st to 5th place nationally, thanks to the introduction of the CBSE pattern in government schools. On industrial growth, he pointed to the Bulk Drug Park in Una, expected to generate over 10,000 jobs, and solar projects positioning Una as a hub for renewable energy.

Sukhu also underscored improvements in healthcare, with hospitals being equipped with modern machinery and specialist doctors. Referring to the natural disasters of 2023 and 2025, he said the Congress government announced historic relief packages on its own, while BJP leaders failed to secure additional support from the Centre.

He concluded by accusing the BJP of internal factionalism and relying on social media manipulation, while reaffirming Congress’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and self-reliance for Himachal Pradesh.
