Weather Department Warns of Snow, Rain, and Hail Across Himachal
The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh are preparing for another spell of fresh snowfall, while the plains and mid-hills are expected to be lashed by heavy rain and hailstorms beginning March 15. The State Meteorological Department has sounded orange and yellow alerts across several districts, urging residents and tourists to stay cautious.
An orange warning has been issued for Shimla, Kullu, and Mandi, where thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and gusty winds are likely to strike isolated areas. Yellow warnings have also been announced for Kangra, Solan, Sirmour, Chamba, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur, with similar conditions expected on March 15, 16, and again on March 18.
The forecast suggests continuous rain, snow, and hail until March 20, with temperatures set to dip sharply—minimums by 2°C to 6°C and maximums by 4°C to 7°C. This could mean chilly days ahead for residents and visitors alike.
Currently, the state has seen mostly dry weather, though temperatures have been running above normal. Shimla recorded a minimum of 12°C, Dharamsala 13.5°C, and Manali 8.6°C. Una, at 33.6°C, was the hottest spot, while Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti was the coldest at just 0.2°C.
For locals, the warnings are a reminder to prepare for slippery roads, sudden storms, and colder nights. For tourists, especially those heading to popular destinations like Kufri, Dharamsala, and Manali, the coming week promises dramatic weather—snow-capped peaks for some, and stormy evenings for others.
