Organizational camp of Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti concluded
An organisational camp for the workers of Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti of the southern region districts of Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur was concluded on Tuesday. More than 50 workers participated in this camp. The aim of the camp was to strengthen the action plan of the committee, develop scientific thinking among the workers and develop a common understanding on issues of social concern.
Main source person Dr. Pramod Gauri said that the movement in Himachal has been a grassroots movement. He said that the organization’s way of contacting the public has been very constructive and practical. Additional Director of Education of Uttarakhand State, SP Semwal stressed on creating a scientific mindset among the workers.
He said that the way superstitions and dogmas are being glorified today instead of a scientific outlook is worrying and will prove to be a regressive step for the new generation. He clarified that it would not be appropriate to believe that everything in the ancient times was wrong and everything in the modern times is right.
Women resource person Manisha Hans said that women in Indian society are becoming victims of feudal stereotypes as well as capitalist exploitation. She said that there is a need to increase women’s leadership in the organization. In the session, Samta’s national convenor Sumitra Chandel, while giving information on women’s legal rights, said that women need to move out of traditional social roles.
National General Secretary of Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti, Dr. O.P. Bhureta informed the participants about the study being conducted on the status of malnutrition by Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti in collaboration with Tata Trust.
In the camp, senior journalist DP Gupta, retired chief engineer of Jal Shakti Department Joginder Chauhan, state secretary of Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti Satyawan Pundir, national convener of Samta Sumitra Chandel, former secretary and senior activist Vishwanath Sharma, youth activist Kapil Sharma, Suryansh Pundir and various resource persons shared their views on important issues.
