South West Monsoon to touch Himachal by June 20: IMD

South West Monsoon is likely to touch Himachal Pradesh on June 20 and it would likely be active in the state on June 25, this was predicted by the IMD.

Issuing tentative of arrival SW Monsoon map for the country Monsoon may advance by a week in the Northern West Himalayan region including Himachal Pradesh by June 20.

Normally Monsoon touches after June 25 these hill states in the last leg may see the early arrival of the rainy season.

IMD also predicted that Minimum and Maximum temperatures likely to remain normal to below normal which indicates that a heatwave may occur in the coming two weeks.

However, people couldn’t have any respite from the shortage of water and dry weather conditions as IMD forecast mainly normal to below normal rainfall during the next two weeks in the state.

On Thursday heatwave lasted in the state as Mercury continued to remain above 40 degrees in some parts. Neri in Hamirpur today recorded 45.6 degrees compared to 46.3 degrees highest maximum temperature of yesterday.

Una also recorded 46 degrees on Wednesday however it was 43.8 degrees on Thursday but continued about 4.7 degrees above normal. Dhaulakuna in Sirmour 42.6 degrees, Bilaspur 41.8 Hamirpur 41.2, Berthin in Bilaspur 40.9, Sundernagar 40.2, Nahan in Sirmour, Kangra and Mandi 39.6 degrees each .

Shimla was 30 degrees and four degrees above normal, Solan 37.5 degrees, Manali 22 degrees Kalpa in Kinnaur 21.4, and Keylong of Lahaul Spiti 14.8 degrees.

During the day windstorms with speeds of 35 to 40 km per hrs hit some parts however it gave respite from the heatwave.

Met Office forecast also rain and thunderstorms in isolated places in the next two days in mid and high reaches and warning of thunderstorms and lightning in the next 24 hours.
