Sirmaur Gears Up for Winter: DC Reviews Preparedness Across Departments

Deputy Commissioner of Sirmaur, Sumit Khimta, held a comprehensive meeting today with department heads and sub-divisional officers to review and strengthen preparations for the upcoming winter season. The meeting, conducted at the Deputy Commissioner’s office and attended virtually by sub-divisional and section development officers, focused on ensuring readiness for harsh weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and snowslides.

Key Guidelines for Winter Preparedness

DC Khimta emphasized proactive planning, directing officials to deploy human resources, machinery, and essential supplies in advance in snow-prone and vulnerable areas. He urged authorities to restrict transportation in snowfall-affected regions to prevent risks to trackers and travelers.

Coordination and Nodal Officers

To streamline responses during winter challenges, the Deputy Commissioner instructed sub-divisional officers to appoint nodal officers at the subdivision level. These officers will ensure efficient coordination and conduct regular reviews with departments in their jurisdictions.

Ensuring Supplies and Services in Remote Areas

Food and Supplies: The Food and Supply Department has been tasked with maintaining adequate stocks of ration and fuel in areas prone to road blockages due to snow.

Essential Utilities: Departments responsible for electricity, water supply, and telecommunication were instructed to ensure uninterrupted services in remote areas.

Health Services: The Health Department was directed to stock essential medicines and ensure the availability of healthcare facilities in isolated regions.

Strategic Deployment for Restoration

Agencies such as the National Highways Authority, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), JSV, and HPSBL were asked to deploy their resources strategically for timely restoration of roads and other critical infrastructure.

Disaster Management Plans and Testing

District Revenue Officer Chetan Chahan provided updates on the District Disaster Management Authority’s (DDMA) winter action plan. He stressed the importance of testing the plan in real-world scenarios to identify and address any shortcomings. Departments were also directed to stockpile necessary items such as water pipes and electric poles for emergency use.
