Shimla Police Bust Suspected Drug Racket, Seize Heroin and MDMA in Sanjauli
In a significant move against the growing menace of narcotics, Shimla Police have arrested two individuals in Sanjauli after allegedly recovering heroin, locally known as ‘Chitta’, and MDMA from their possession. The operation is being seen as part of the district police’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and safeguard young people from substance abuse.
The arrests were made on September 4 after police received specific information about suspected drug peddling activities in the Batish Colony area of Sanjauli. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team patrolling near the Lakshmi Narayan Temple reached the location and intercepted two suspects allegedly moving around the locality with the intention of selling narcotic substances.
During the search, police reportedly recovered around 24 grams of heroin and approximately seven grams of MDMA from the bags carried by the suspects. Both men were immediately taken into custody.
A case has been registered at Sanjauli Police Station under FIR No. 65/2026 under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The accused have been identified as Baldev Singh (45), a resident of Chandigarh’s Sector 41-D, Badheri, and Sahil (23), a resident of Devag village in Sunni tehsil of Shimla district.
Investigators are now working to trace the origin of the seized narcotics and uncover the network through which the substances were allegedly being supplied. Police are also examining the contacts and possible associates of the accused to determine whether a larger drug distribution chain is involved.
Shimla Police have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against those involved in the possession, transportation and sale of narcotic substances. Officials say the investigation remains underway, and further arrests or revelations could emerge as the probe progresses.
The latest seizure highlights the continued challenge posed by drug trafficking in the hill state and the intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle such networks before they reach vulnerable communities.
