Recruitment of 3468 teachers in CBSE affiliated schools under process: Rohit Thakur
Education Minister Rohit Thakur said the recruitment for 3,468 teaching posts in CBSE-affiliated government schools was under way in the state. These include requisitions for 2,668 regular posts in 19 categories forwarded to the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog, Hamirpur, besides engagement of 800 temporary English and Mathematics teachers. The recruitment process for teachers in Sanskrit, Physical Education, Music, Drawing, Science, Commerce, Economics, Political Science, History, Hindi, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Computer Science, Fine Arts and Public Administration streams would also be completed soon.
The Minister was chairing a review meeting of the Education department here on Wednesday to assess the progress of key reforms aimed at transforming the state into a leading education hub of the country.
While reviewing the implementation of the Dr. Y.S. Parmar Digital Student scheme, he said 9,359 students have been provided tablets during the past three academic sessions. He instructed the officials to cover the remaining eligible students through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode without delay.
He informed that all government schools in the state had now been integrated with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and for the first time, the state government had secured approval for replacement of computers in 524 schools. Besides, BSNL has finalized the networking tender for 777 government schools, which would significantly strengthen digital connectivity and technology-enabled learning.
Reviewing the CBSE school initiative, the Minister said approval had been granted to 158 schools, of which 146 had already secured CBSE affiliation. To improve academic standards, the state government has engaged 400 English and 400 Mathematics teachers on a temporary basis, with 292 English and 284 Mathematics teachers already joining their respective schools.
The Minister reviewed recruitment and service-related matters, including those concerning SMC Teachers, Computer Teachers, LDR cases and directed to provide a second opportunity to SMC candidates who could not qualify in the first attempt besides disposing off all pending service matters on priority. The counselling for Shastri posts has been completed and appointment letter have been issued to 191 selected candidates. The recruitment process for 870 Physical Education Teacher (PET) posts has also been initiated, while counselling for 355 posts has already been completed.
During the review of recruitment proposals announced by the Chief Minister, it was informed that 486 posts of Lecturers (Physical Education) have been created and approval have been sought for filling another 112 posts. He also reviewed the progress of Multi Task Worker recruitment and informed that 6,703 of the 8,000 sanctioned posts had already been filled.
Reviewing the Social Audit of PM POSHAN, the Minister was informed that the State Social Audit Unit had completed audits in 503 schools during 2025-26. He directed all districts to submit Action Taken Reports at the earliest and ensure corrective measures wherever required.
The Minister also reviewed the Dr. Y.S. Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojana, under which students can avail education loans of up to Rs. 20 lakh at one percent interest. He directed the Higher Education department to simplify the scheme to make it more accessible to eligible students.
Rohit Thakur said that Rs. 19 crore had been released to PWD and HIMUDA for repair and reconstruction of schools damaged during the 2023 and 2025 disasters, while Rs. 101 crore had been approved for restoration. Besides, Rs. 80 crore was yet to be received. He directed officers to complete pending formalities to ensure early restoration of educational infrastructure.
The Minister further directed to operationalize non-functional Kendriya Vidyalayas at the earliest, develop an effective mechanism for issuing timely weather advisories to schools and create awareness about the Government of India’s Teacher Award-2026 to encourage maximum participation from the state.
He also reviewed the proposal for establishing an AI University and measures for identification and mainstreaming of out-of-school children. He advocated adoption of online inspection mechanisms through WhatsApp and Google Meet on the pattern of Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen monitoring, improve administrative efficiency and reduce unnecessary delays.
Secretary Education Rakesh Kanwar, Project Director, Samagra Shiksh Rajesh Sharma, Director, School Education Ashish kohli, Director, Higher Education Suneeta Singh and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
