Light rain and snow expected in higher reaches of Himachal

While the rooftops of Himachal Pradesh still yearn for rain, the mountains recently received a charming snowy embrace. The majority of the region remains dry, with intermittent clouds engaging in a playful game of hide-and-seek with the sun.

Kothi in Kullu and Bharmour in Chamba emerged as the frontrunners, experiencing a 2.5 cm snowfall over the past two days. Areas like Kukamseri, Gindala, and the North portal of Rohtang Tunnel in Lahaul Spiti also enjoyed a touch of winter elevation.

Across the state, sunny intervals led to a slight increase in minimum temperatures, providing relief over 24 hours. However, the persistence of cold nights and subtle fog patches lingers.

Daytime conditions are relatively pleasant, with temperatures rising above 16 degrees at most tourist spots, creating ideal sweater weather without the risk of becoming a popsicle.

The dry spell is set to persist until January 30th, but anticipation builds for a potential change. On January 31st, light rain and snowfall may grace high-altitude regions, signaling a shift in weather dynamics.

Early February could host a mild to moderate rain/snow celebration in mid and high reaches, while the foothills maintain their dry ambiance. Some sprinkles are anticipated in midhill areas on January 28th, 30th, and February 1st, adding an element of excitement.

Expect cool to normal-ish maximum temperatures and steady minimums in the coming week. Keylong and Kaza continue to endure frigid conditions, hovering between minus seven to ten degrees, while other locations showcase varying degrees of chilliness.

As the majority of Himachal Pradesh eagerly anticipates a refreshing downpour, the mountains relish their wintry spectacle, and residents can savor sunny days accompanied by chilly nights. Keep an eye on the horizon for a potential rain/snow affair at the month’s end, and remember, even in its dry spell, Himachal Pradesh never fails to captivate. Let’s hope the rain graces the region soon, adding an extra layer of enchantment.
