Himachal Pradesh Government Enhances Disaster Preparedness Education in Schools
In a bid to bolster disaster preparedness education, the Himachal Pradesh government plans to revamp the existing syllabus. A dedicated committee will be established to craft lessons addressing earthquakes, floods, landslides, and various emergencies.
Onkar Chand Sharma, Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management in Himachal Pradesh, expressed dissatisfaction with the current disaster management syllabus, prompting the initiative.
Sharma emphasized that the new curriculum should cater to all grades, providing students with knowledge and skills relevant before, during, and after disasters. The primary objective is to enhance student safety during emergencies, with the involvement of experts from education boards and directorates in syllabus development.
Anticipated to be finalized within six months, the revised syllabus aims to be implemented across schools. This proactive step aligns with the state’s vulnerability to natural disasters, including earthquakes, floods, and landslides, with recent years witnessing severe calamities.
The forthcoming curriculum will impart comprehensive knowledge about various disasters and emphasize safety measures. Students will acquire essential skills for emergency preparedness and response, fostering heightened awareness of the inherent risks associated with natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh.
