BJP Dominates Mandi Civic Polls with Landslide Victory

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again delivered a strong performance in the Mandi Municipal Corporation (MC) elections, securing a sweeping win in 12 out of the 14 wards where voting was held on May 17.

When the votes were counted on Sunday, the results clearly reflected BJP’s dominance. Out of the contested wards, BJP candidates emerged victorious in 12, while the Congress managed to win only one seat. In another ward, an independent candidate—who was formerly associated with the Congress—claimed victory. Notably, polling could not take place in Ward No. 14, as residents chose to boycott the election.

The lone Congress win came from Ward No. 4, where Narvada Mohan, wife of Rajender Mohan, was elected. Meanwhile, Alka Handa, a sitting Congress councillor who was denied a party ticket this time, contested as an independent and won from Ward No. 1.

The BJP’s winning candidates across various wards include Sarita Handa (Ward 2), Nirmala (Ward 3), Krishna Thakur (Ward 5), Virender Arya (Ward 6), Jitender Kumar (Ward 7), Gudeep Kaur (Ward 8), Suman (Ward 9), Neha (Ward 10), Jitender (Ward 11), Gagan (Ward 12), Rajni Sharma (Ward 13), and Rita Kumar (Ward 15).

Reacting to the outcome, former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed gratitude to the people of Mandi for their continued trust in the BJP. He stated that the results reflect the growing dissatisfaction among voters with the Congress government in the state. According to him, the perceived neglect and discrimination against Mandi played a crucial role in tilting the balance in favour of BJP candidates.
