Kufri and Shilonbagh valleys are drenched in rhododendron flowers
Mudaghat, Chhalanda, Koti and Kufri valley of Junga region are full of rhododendron flowers these days. The tourists visiting this area are enjoying it to the fullest. Tourists are stopping their vehicles on the roadside and admiring the rhododendron flowers and clicking photographs.
Let us tell you that its scientific name is Rhododendron. Red and pink flowers bloom on its trees in the month of March-April. This plant grows mostly in cold places where the temperature is 120 degrees Celsius and in sloping places. It does not require much water. Burans is a tree found at a medium height of 1500 to 3600 meters above sea level. The leaves of this tree are thick and the flowers are like bells. This tree grows automatically in the forests. Note that this flower is found in abundance in Himachal. In some districts, this flower is used in the form of pickle, jam and juice. People from rural areas also bring Burans flowers to sell in the market, which has also become a source of income for the people.
Pritam Thakur, a senior citizen of the area, said that on the day of Vaishakh Sankranti, they consider it auspicious to make a garland of rhododendron flowers and place it first in the temple of their family deity and then in their homes. The chutney made of rhododendron flowers is very tasty and is an infallible remedy to avoid heat stroke and nosebleed. Some people dry rhododendron petals and keep them, which they use in chutney and other food items.
Koti’s Ayurveda doctor Dr Vishwabandhu Joshi says that Buransh flowers are full of medicinal properties which are used in various medicines. Buransh contains vitamins A, B-1, B-2, C, E and K in abundance which do not allow weight gain and keep cholesterol under control. He said that the syrup of Buransh flowers cools the brain and being a good antioxidant, it prevents skin diseases.
