Kisan Sabha demanded CM Sukhu to start tourism and hospitality course in Koti college
Himachal Pradesh Kisan Sabha welcomed Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on his arrival in Tehsil Junga of Kasumpti constituency for the first time on 25 November after becoming the Chief Minister. State President of Kisan Sabha Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar has demanded from the CM in a statement issued on Sunday that courses of science subject, vocal subjects in music and tourism, and hospitality should be started in Government Degree College Chail Koti so that after getting an education from college, the youth can adopt tourism and hospitality as a profession. He said that every year thousands of tourists come to Kufri, Shilonbagh, Koti, and Chail to enjoy the beauty of nature. If this course is started in this college, then children can get employment opportunities at their doorstep. He said that due to the lack of science subject in college, children have to go to Solan or Shimla to study this subject.
Dr. Tanwar said that this is the only college for 10 panchayats of Junga tehsil, but most of the children from rural areas are deprived of higher education due to the non-availability of bus services on time for children to reach the college. He has demanded from the CM that transport service should be provided for the children of Wablu, Peeran etc. areas, since the buses running on these routes leave very early in the morning and come late in the evening. Dr. Tanwar said that last year the number of students in this college was 151, which has now reduced to 132. If the children do not get the facility of commuting, then this number will decrease further, due to which the college may also be closed if the criteria set for the number of students in the college is not met.
Dr. Tanwar has also demanded to open a public library in the college campus so that unemployed youth, retired employees, senior citizens can benefit. He said that children from rural areas go to libraries in cities by paying money.
Dr. Tanwar said that this college is a symbol of unity and struggle of the people of the Junga region. In the year 2010, Kisan Sabha had launched a campaign to open a college in Koti with the help of local people. About 3500 people of the area had signed and submitted a memorandum to the former BJP and Congress government. Many times marches were also taken out to the Vidhan Sabha for which cases have also been filed against them. He says that on the demand of the people, this college was announced by the former CM in the year 2013. He told that from the year 2014 to 2024, this college was run in the primary school and eight batches of the college have passed out after receiving education in this primary school building. Dr. Tanwar has expressed hope from the CM that he will definitely consider his demands of public interest and will announce the start of tourism and hospitality courses.
