Himachal Police Screen 840 Suspects, Search 573 Hotspots in Intensified Anti-Chitta Drive

The Himachal Pradesh Police and the Special Task Force (STF) have stepped up their battle against drug abuse and trafficking under the second phase of the statewide ‘Anti-Chitta’ campaign, carrying out extensive searches and screenings across the state.

As part of the coordinated operation, police teams raided and inspected 573 deserted, isolated and vulnerable locations believed to be susceptible to drug-related activities. The drive was aimed at breaking drug supply networks, identifying repeat offenders and curbing the spread of synthetic drugs.

During the campaign, authorities screened 840 suspects, while urine samples from 114 individuals were collected for testing to detect possible drug consumption. Police also conducted large-scale vehicle checks, inspecting 1,774 vehicles at different checkpoints across Himachal Pradesh.

Enforcement action extended beyond narcotics as well. Under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), police issued 169 challans and registered one case for violations.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 2.57 grams of Chitta, a synthetic narcotic, and the arrest of two individuals allegedly linked to drug-related offences.

Alongside enforcement, the campaign focused on public awareness. Police installed 885 ‘No Drug Abuse’ information boards at sensitive locations across the state to educate people about the dangers of substance abuse and encourage community participation in tackling the problem.

A police spokesperson said such special drives will continue across Himachal Pradesh to strengthen action against drug trafficking and consumption. The campaign is not only intended to catch offenders but also to create awareness and discourage drug-related activities through sustained enforcement and community involvement.

Reaffirming its commitment to making Himachal Pradesh drug-free, the state police urged citizens to support law enforcement agencies by reporting information related to drug peddling and substance abuse in their areas.
