Even after 26 years, the announcements made in the name of Kargil martyr Bhim Singh remain incomplete
A minister in the former Dhumal government had announced naming of Habban school and road after the martyr.
Despite nearly 26 years having passed, the announcement to name the Government Senior Secondary School, Habban, and the Habban-Shivpur-Chandol road after Kargil martyr Los Naik Bhim Singh Thakur remains unfulfilled. The martyr’s family is deeply saddened by this announcement. It should be noted that this announcement was made by Roop Singh Thakur, then Forest Minister in the former BJP-led Dhumal government, during the unveiling ceremony of the martyr’s statue in Habban on June 11, 2001.
It should be noted that during the Kargil Operation Rakshak, martyr Lt Naik Bhim Singh Thakur, a resident of Shivpur village of Habban in Rajgarh block, sacrificed his life for the protection of the motherland on June 11, 2000, at the age of 24, while fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Let us tell you that in the memory of the martyr, the family members prepared a statue of Lt Naik Bhim Singh Thakur at their own expense, which was installed in the Shaheed Park near Habban on June 11, 2001. Roop Singh Thakur, a cabinet minister in the former Dhumal government, was invited for its unveiling.
Many residents of the area, including Jai Prakash Chauhan, president of the Pajouta Freedom Fighter Social Welfare Committee, Shakuntala Prakash, Rajendra Habi, and Virendra Habi, said that the former minister of the Dhumal government had made a mockery of the martyr’s sacrifice by making a false announcement. They said that five governments have been formed in the state since 2001, but no government has paid any attention to this matter. Locals also said that they had requested the former Assembly Speaker of the Congress government, GR Musafir, about this matter, but to date, they have only received assurances.
It should be noted that Martyr Bhim Singh Thakur was born on August 5, 1975, in Shivpur village near Habban. His father, Bijli Prasad, and mother, Ramkali, were ordinary farmers. He completed his 10th grade from Habban and his 12th grade from the Government Senior Secondary School, Fagu. Bhim Singh joined the Gorkha Rifles in 1992. During Operation Rakshak in Kargil, Bhim Singh Thakur was posted in Jammu and Kashmir, where he attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists in Khooninala on June 11, 2000.
