Dr. Savita Sehgal honored with National Award in Folk and Classical Music

Dr. Savita Sehgal, Associate Professor of Music Singing at Government College, Rajgarh, was honoured with the ‘Chand Kullvi Lal Chand Prathi Pahari Art, Culture and Civilisation National Award’ for her outstanding contribution in the field of folk and classical music.
The award was presented at a grand ceremony organized by the Bhuttico Weavers Handloom and Handicrafts Co-operative Society Limited in Kullu on April 21. On this occasion, a total of 14 distinguished individuals from India and abroad, including Dr. Savita Sehgal, were honored with national and international awards for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
Dr. Savita Sehgal is the daughter of renowned folk artist Pandit Dr. Krishna Lal Sehgal of Himachal Pradesh. She is the first woman from Sirmaur district to earn a Ph.D. in music and a gold medal in M.A. (Music). With nearly 26 years of teaching experience, she is a recognized “A Grade” artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan and the first woman from the state to achieve this feat in both classical and light music. On the occasion of International Women’s Day in 2026, she was honored with the “Women First Award 2026” by Cabinet Minister Jagat Singh Negi for her outstanding contribution to the field of classical and light music.
Calling this honour an inspiration, he said that he would continue working for the preservation and promotion of the musical tradition of Himachal in the future also.
