Boosting Research Rigor: HPU Workshop Tackles Plagiarism and Promotes Digital Repositori

In a move to foster a world-class research environment, Himachal Pradesh University’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) successfully hosted a dynamic one-day workshop, “Unlocking Academic Repositories: Shodhganga & Plagiarism Awareness,” on campus today.

The event, which saw robust participation from over 500 teachers and research scholars, was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. Mahavir Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of HPU.

A Clear Roadmap for Research Excellence

Prof. Singh used the platform to outline an ambitious roadmap for the university’s research future. Emphasizing that “every research work must be quality-based,” he announced two key initiatives to incentivize high-caliber work:

  1. The introduction of “Best Researcher Awards” for outstanding teachers and scholars.
  2. Plans to provide international training opportunities in advanced laboratories for deserving students.

He also called for greater collaboration with HPU’s five new research centres, particularly from social sciences faculty, and set a clear expectation for annual scholarly output.

Expert Insights on Tools and Integrity

The workshop’s core session was delivered by Dr. Manoj Kumar K., Scientist–F from the INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar. As the resource person, he equipped attendees with crucial knowledge on navigating the Shodhganga digital repository and implementing best practices for plagiarism detection and academic integrity.

The Vice-Chancellor concluded by congratulating the IQAC team, led by Dr. Ramesh Thakur, for organizing a “timely, relevant, and highly productive” workshop that promises to significantly elevate the quality and ethics of research at HPU.
