Himachal Pradesh Sees Tourism Boom with Over One Crore Visitors in First Half of 2024
Himachal Pradesh has experienced a remarkable surge in tourism, welcoming over one crore visitors in the first six months of 2024. By the end of June, the state had recorded an impressive 1,00,87,440 tourists, drawn by its scenic valleys, pleasant climate, and enhanced facilities provided by the state government.
Popular destinations such as Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Kinnaur, and Lahaul and Spiti remained top choices for tourists. Kullu and Shimla districts stood out, attracting 4,73,737 and 4,48,392 tourists respectively.
This upward trend has continued into July, thanks to favorable weather and open roads. Tourists are flocking to Himachal Pradesh to escape the sweltering summer heat of the plains and enjoy its breathtaking landscapes.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu assured that most roads in the state remain accessible despite recent weather challenges. “Although some roads have been affected by weather conditions, the majority are open and accessible to tourists and the general public. Himachal is witnessing a significant influx of tourists this July, and we are on track to surpass two crore visitors by the end of the year,” he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of staying informed by checking the latest travel advisories and road conditions through district administration helplines, the police department, and social media. “Tourist safety and enjoyment are our top priorities,” he added.
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring safe and enjoyable travel for all visitors. The Public Works Department (PWD) is working tirelessly to clear any road blockades and swiftly restore travel routes. The Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation is also encouraging tourists to stay updated on specific routes and travel with confidence. Regular updates on road conditions are being provided by the district administration and Himachal Police to ensure tourists have a seamless experience during their stay in the state.
