Flash Flood Alert Issued for Seven Himachal Districts as Heavy Rain Looms
Himachal Pradesh may face flash floods and intense rainfall over the next 24 hours, prompting the State Meteorological Centre to issue warnings for several districts. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone areas and near rivers, streams, and other water bodies.
According to the Meteorological Centre, a low to moderate risk of flash floods exists in a few watersheds and surrounding areas across seven districts. The warning comes amid forecasts of continued monsoon activity, raising concerns about sudden rises in water levels and localized flooding.
An orange alert has been issued for Kangra, Mandi, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Chamba, and Sirmaur districts, where heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations on Monday. Meanwhile, Shimla, Kullu, and Solan are under a yellow alert, with light to moderate rainfall likely in some areas.
In view of the weather conditions, residents and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable locations and stay away from rivers, nullahs, and other water channels that can swell rapidly during heavy rain.
Despite the wet spell, temperatures across the state are expected to remain around normal levels. Shimla and Dharamshala recorded minimum temperatures of 17.8°C, while Manali registered 19.6°C. Other temperatures included 21.8°C in Solan, 24.3°C in Mandi, 24.5°C in Bilaspur, 25.3°C in Hamirpur, and 23.8°C in Kangra.
Among the hill stations, Dalhousie recorded 18.3°C, Kufri 15.5°C, and Kasauli 19°C. In lower areas, Una reported 23.2°C, Nahan 21.1°C, and Paonta Sahib 25°C.
The coldest place in the state remained Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti, where the minimum temperature dipped to 12.2°C.
With the monsoon remaining active across Himachal, officials are closely monitoring the situation and have appealed to the public to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
