Himachal Assembly’s Monsoon Session to Begin August 21; Key Public Issues Likely to Take Centre Stage
The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly will hold its monsoon session from August 21 to September 3, 2026, with lawmakers scheduled to meet for 10 sittings over a two-week period. The session is expected to be significant, as both the government and opposition prepare to discuss a range of legislative measures and issues affecting people across the state.
The 12th session of the 14th Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly has been formally convened by Governor Kavindra Gupta under Article 174(1) of the Constitution. Following the Governor’s approval, the Assembly Secretariat issued the official notification on Saturday, setting the stage for another important round of parliamentary proceedings in Shimla.
Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said that MLAs can now submit questions and notices to the Secretariat through both online and offline modes, making the process more convenient and accessible for members.
According to the schedule, the House will assemble at 11 a.m. on August 21 at the Vidhan Sabha complex in Shimla. A special sitting has also been scheduled for August 22. There will be no sittings on August 28, 29, and 30. August 28 has been reserved in view of Raksha Bandhan, while August 29 and 30 fall on the weekend. The day of August 27 will be dedicated to Private Members’ Business, allowing legislators to introduce and discuss their own proposals and resolutions.
The notification, issued on August 1 following the Governor’s order dated July 30, has been circulated to all MLAs, Himachal’s Members of Parliament, senior government officials, and departmental heads. The order was signed by Assembly Secretary Yash Pal Sharma.
The upcoming session is expected to witness debates on important government bills, financial matters, and policy decisions. The opposition is also gearing up to raise concerns related to disaster management, road connectivity, electricity supply, drinking water, healthcare services, education, and unemployment, making the session an important platform for addressing issues that directly impact the lives of people across Himachal Pradesh.
