Big Opportunity for Aspiring Teachers: Himachal Opens 373 Assistant Professor Posts
After a long wait, a major opportunity has finally opened up for aspiring teachers in Himachal Pradesh. The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) has invited applications for 373 posts of Assistant Professors in government colleges under the Higher Education Department.
Candidates who have been waiting for faculty recruitment can now apply online through the Commission’s official website. The last date to submit applications is July 14, 2026, by 11:59 pm. Officials have made it clear that once the deadline passes, the application link will be disabled and no offline applications will be accepted.
These appointments will be made on a job trainee basis, with selected candidates receiving a monthly remuneration of ₹35,000. Applicants between the ages of 18 and 45 are eligible, and those who have recently qualified the State Eligibility Test (SET) in 2026 can also apply—bringing fresh chances for new candidates to enter the teaching profession.
The recruitment spans a wide range of subjects, offering opportunities across disciplines. English leads with 39 vacancies, followed by Chemistry and Hindi with 34 posts each. Subjects like Physics and Mathematics have 25 posts each, while Botany, Zoology, and Geography account for 20 vacancies each.
Other important subjects are also well represented. Physical Education has 23 posts, History 19, Sociology 17, and Political Science 16. Additionally, Commerce has 15 posts, Public Administration 14, Psychology 13, and Economics 10. Vacancies are also available in subjects such as Geology, Sanskrit, Philosophy, and even performing arts like Music (Vocal and Instrumental), Dance, and Tabla.
According to officials, the written examination for these posts is expected to be conducted in the third week of July 2026, giving candidates limited but crucial time to prepare.
The recruitment process also follows government reservation norms to ensure fair representation. Positions have been reserved for candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), as well as the unreserved category.
Special provisions have also been made for ex-servicemen, dependents of freedom fighters, and persons with disabilities—including those with hearing, locomotor, intellectual, and visual impairments.
This recruitment drive is expected to bring much-needed relief to government colleges across the state, many of which have been struggling with faculty shortages for years. For students, it could mean better access to quality education, and for aspiring teachers, it marks a significant chance to begin a career in academia.
With hundreds of positions up for grabs, this is being seen as one of the most important recruitment drives in the state’s higher education sector in recent times.
