Milk reaching Rajgarh chilling plant in excess of capacity, officials worried
Inflow of 6000 liters against 4500 liter capacity – farmers angry
The milk chilling plant in Rajgarh is currently experiencing increased pressure on the system due to the oversupply of milk. The dairy farmers involved are now facing difficulties.
Ashwani Kumar, in-charge of the Milk Federation Rajgarh, explained that the plant’s rated capacity is approximately 4,500 liters per day, but currently, approximately 6,000 liters of milk are arriving. Consequently, the plant management is finding it difficult to handle this excess milk.
He explained that the Rajgarh plant receives daily milk supplies from several areas in the Nauhradhar tehsil, including Tonda, Gawahi, Pidiadhar, Bogdhar, Blyandhar, Nohradhar, and Dewamanal. Due to the ever-increasing production, the plant is now experiencing overload.
He explained that there are two main options to address this problem: either increasing the plant’s capacity or establishing a new milk chilling center in the Nauhradhar area. Locals have also proposed a new plant, which could directly benefit the area’s farmers.
It is noteworthy that in recent years, after the government announced to buy cow milk at Rs 61 and buffalo milk at Rs 71 per litre, farmers promoted animal husbandry, which has led to a significant increase in milk production.
Farmers say that while the government is encouraging increased production, they are now facing threats of reduced procurement. They allege that they are suffering the consequences of the plant’s limited capacity. Farmers have demanded that the government and the relevant department increase the plant’s capacity as soon as possible or make alternative arrangements so that they can receive a fair price for their produce and avoid any losses.
