Over the past few years, ice hockey in Himachal has seen remarkable growth. More than 500 young players are currently in active training, signaling a strong grassroots movement. A major turning point came with India’s historic bronze medal at the 2025 IIHF Women’s Asia Cup. Players from Himalayan regions, including Himachal, played a key role in this achievement. The estimated cost of the program stands at approximately ₹20.75 lakh, with the majority of funds directed toward training infrastructure and player readiness. Ice time alone constitutes the largest expense, highlighting the urgent need for local facilities in Himachal.

Experts believe that investing in artificial ice rinks within the state could be a game-changer, enabling year-round training and reducing dependence on external venues.
