Satwik Basta won silver medal in MTB Championship
Satvik Basta, a Class IX student of Saraswati Paradise International Public School, Sanjauli, performed brilliantly in the Grey Ghost MTB Cycle Championship, securing a silver medal in the Cross-Country Olympics (XCO) Under-19 category. Held in Kardang village of Lahaul-Spiti, the competition saw participation from 22 youth, including participants from various states and a female cyclist from Germany. Amidst the harsh cold and challenging mountain track, Satvik displayed his talent, technical prowess and patience to secure the second position.
Satwik’s achievement has brought joy to his family, school, and community. Winning a silver medal in the Under-19 category at just 15 years old, while competing against older athletes, demonstrates his hard work, regular practice, and dedication to cycling.
Satvik’s father, Dr. Jaipal Basta, who serves in the Animal Husbandry Department in Koti-Junga, said that the region was experiencing bitter cold during the competition. Fresh snowfall on the high mountain peaks made the weather even more challenging. Cycling on the rugged mountain paths was a tough test for the participants. Despite this, Satvik performed brilliantly, achieving second place thanks to his excellent balance, speed, and determination.
He explained that Satvik has been passionate about cycling on rough terrain since childhood. This interest and passion for the sport has led him to participate in cycling competitions held in various states, bringing glory to his school and region with his performances. It’s worth noting that in the Olympic cross-country mountain biking competition, athletes must maintain balance while maintaining speed over difficult climbs, steep descents, and rocky terrain.
