HFADA demands for a substance free elections on Himachal Day, Appeals citizens to join the fight

As the state gears up for Panchayat and Municipal body elections, a powerful voice has emerged from the grassroots. The Himachal Forum Against Drug Abuse (HFADA) has launched a zero-tolerance campaign today, demanding that every candidate sign a binding manifesto pledge: No distribution of money or drugs to win votes.

In a blistering call to action released on Himachal Day, the Forum declared that the use of narcotics to manipulate voters is not just a crime—it is an attack on the soul of democracy.

“A candidate who wins by distributing money and drugs will not serve the public,” the Forum warned. “Instead, he will resort to corruption to recoup his losses. When you question him, his answer will be: ‘You didn’t vote for me. I bought your injury.’”

The Hard Questions Voters Must Ask

HFADA is urging citizens to look beyond party lines and ask themselves four critical questions before casting a ballot:

  1. Are you okay with being called a sellout?
  2. Do you want to see your young children drunk tomorrow?
  3. Are you willing to compromise the safety of your daughters?
  4. Is the daily conflict and mental torture at home acceptable?

“If not,” the Forum states, “then decide that we will rise above partisan interests. Every vote must go to a candidate who stands with you, has fought, and can fight against drug abuse.”

The ‘Dangerous’ Strategy of Election Season

According to the Forum, alcohol is weaponized specifically during election season. Villages report widespread distribution of liquor and meat parties. While the immediate goal is to garner votes, HFADA alleges a darker, long-term conspiracy.

“The purpose is not only to garner votes but also to increase the number of consumers for the future,” the report reads. “The more people become addicted, the more the liquor trade flourishes. This despicable business operates under the patronage of political and influential people.”

Observers note that ten days of free alcohol can ruin homes for a lifetime, with every election cycle creating a new group of addicts.

Exploitation of Youth: From Classrooms to Crime

Perhaps the most tragic element of the campaign is the use of children and young adults as mules. Drug mafias are reportedly luring schoolchildren with money to supply alcohol and synthetic drugs like chitta.

“Children who could have achieved something better through education… become drug-addled, political thugs,” the Forum laments. “Meanwhile, the children of those same politicians receive good education and pursue jobs and businesses.”

The Forum points out that parents today find protecting their children from addiction a bigger challenge than educating them. “There is no home without a family member or relative affected by drug addiction,” they state.

Impact on Women and Safety

The ripple effects are devastating families:

· Domestic Violence: Alcohol-fueled disputes lead to women being beaten and children’s education neglected.
· Street Crime: Snatching, assault, and violence are rising due to addiction.
· Women’s Safety: Drug abuse is a major cause of abuse against girls. Parents are afraid to send daughters to school, especially in rural areas with long, deserted walking paths.

Call to Action: ‘Checkposts in Every Village’

Declaring that “we will not let our children’s future be robbed,” HFADA has announced a concrete plan starting today, April 15—dubbed Resolution Day.

Their demands for a Drug-Free Panchayat/Municipal election:

  1. Checkposts: Establish physical checkpoints in every village to prevent liquor and drug flow.
  2. Neighborhood Watch: Self-help groups (Mahila Mandals) and sisters are to keep watch, involving youth to save their own generation.
  3. Boycott: Voters must openly oppose and boycott any candidate distributing liquor, drugs, or money.

The Final Verdict

As the election campaign heats up, the message from the hills is clear: Partisan interests must die for democracy to live.

“Liquor should not be distributed. Youth must inspire the Panchayat to take action. And if a candidate tries to buy your injury, you must sell them your rejection.”

HFADA calls on all citizens to join this comprehensive platform. The fight for a sober, safe, and dignified Himachal starts at the ballot box.
