Lack of teachers at Mundu High School is affecting children’s education

Four vacant teaching positions at the Government High School, Mundu, bordering the Kasupanti constituency, are disrupting children’s education, and students have begun migrating to other schools. SMC President Ashima Chauhan, Man Singh, Devi Ram, Keshavram, and Bhup Singh, along with several others, reported that the Government High School, Mundu, has nine sanctioned teaching positions, including that of the headmaster, of which four have been vacant for a long time. These positions include one headmaster position and three for TGT Arts and Non-Medical. Due to the lack of staff, the number of students has dropped from 43 to 35.
The SMC head stated that the issue of filling vacant teaching positions has been raised with the department and the government numerous times, but it remains largely unanswered. He says that the Sukhu government has closed thousands of schools due to declining enrollment, and the department has no information on which schools the surplus staff has been accommodated in. This surplus staff should be sent to schools facing staff shortages.
Locals say the government’s claims of providing quality education in educational institutions are proving hollow. After coming to power, the Sukhu government has discontinued school uniforms. To keep teachers in check, attendance is being taken through the Swift Chat app, a practice that should have been applied to all departments. They argue that a strong education system will lead to progress for the nation and society, providing quality education to children.
Deputy Director, Primary Education Office, Shimla says that information regarding filling of vacant posts is given to higher officials from time to time and it is the prerogative of the government to appoint employees on vacant posts.
