Interference in the legal action of Delhi Police is an attack on the federal structure : Jai Ram Thakur

A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party led by Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur met His Excellency Governor of Himachal Pradesh Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhawan and submitted a detailed memorandum regarding interference in the legal action of Delhi Police in the AI Impact Summit 2026 case and alleged political misuse of police machinery by the State Government.

Speaking to the media after meeting the Governor, Jairam Thakur said that the AI Impact Summit held in Delhi under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi elevated India’s reputation on the world stage. India’s image was strongly enhanced by the presence of heads of state from over 20 countries and heads of global technology companies. However, on this very platform, Youth Congress leaders attempted to tarnish the country’s image by staging a semi-nude protest. He alleged that this protest took place at the behest of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. He said that one of the reasons for the police’s efforts was to obtain the DVR and documents seized from the hotel, as there was a fear that the DVR would reveal the secrets of all the conspirators. If all these details were revealed, who met them, who helped them, and who provided them with facilities, the government would be exposed.

Jai Ram Thakur said that an FIR was registered in Delhi regarding this anti-national act, and the Delhi Police initiated legal action. He alleged that some Youth Congress leaders involved in the incident were given shelter at Himachal Sadan, and the Chief Minister himself has admitted that the rooms were booked through the Chief Minister’s Office. “This clearly indicates that the protection was provided in an organized manner,” he said.

He said that when Delhi Police found evidence that some of the accused were hiding in Himachal Pradesh, they went to the Chanshal Valley Hotel in Rohru and arrested Saurabh Singh (Amethi, Uttar Pradesh), Arwaz (Kanpur), and Siddharth (Madhya Pradesh). Jairam Thakur questioned how they ended up here, despite having no permanent connection to Himachal. “Were they provided safe haven through political patronage and government resources?” he asked.

He alleged that upon reaching Dharampur, the Delhi Police were unconstitutionally stopped, and an FIR for kidnapping was filed against them at 8:11 pm, despite having legal documents, seizure reports, and court orders. Even after a magistrate granted transit remand, the Delhi Police were stopped and attempts were made to seize the vehicle. The standoff continued for nearly 24 hours. “This confrontation between the police of two states is a direct attack on the federal structure,” he said.

The Leader of the Opposition said that if the state government has used the police machinery for political reasons, it is a violation of the Constitutional oath. He alleged that the Himachal government is acting at the behest of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi and has turned the land of God into a political haven.

Jairam Thakur demanded from the Governor that a high-level investigation be conducted through the central government into this entire incident, that an independent inquiry be conducted into the role of the Chief Minister’s Office, and that strict action be taken against erring officials and those providing political patronage. He said that this matter is not just about an arrest, but about India’s international reputation and the rule of law.

MLA Vinod Kumar, Balbir Verma, Jeet Ram Katwal, former minister Suresh Bhardwaj, state office bearers Kusum Sadrate, Karan Nanda, Rama Thakur, Sudip Mahajan, district president Keshav Chauhan, candidate Sanjay Sood, Mandal president Ranjeet Pandit, Sanjeev Chauhan, municipal councilor and other workers were present in the delegation.
