A Lifeline for Bhoranj: New Critical Care Unit Set to Transform Local Healthcare
In a major boost to healthcare in the region, the state government has approved a ₹24 crore project to establish a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit at Bhoranj Hospital. This ambitious development promises to bring a new level of advanced medical care directly to the doorsteps of local residents, marking a significant leap forward for the community.
The approval is the latest in a series of investments that have seen the Bhoranj Assembly constituency flourish. Over the last three years, essential facilities spanning health, education, roads, and transport have been extensively developed. Bhoranj Hospital itself has been at the heart of this transformation. A new block, inaugurated by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu at a cost of ₹11.5 crore, is already operational, and a second block is rapidly progressing. The hospital was also recently designated as an ideal medical institution, attracting specialist doctors to serve the thousands who depend on it.
Now, with the sanctioned Critical Care Unit, the hospital is poised for what local MLA Suresh Kumar calls a “revolution” in medical services. “After the establishment of this unit, many serious diseases will be treated and operated on right here,” Kumar states. “Our regional residents will have access to modern medical facilities comparable to a District Hospital, without having to travel long distances in times of crisis.”
The new unit will be housed in an additional block and will dramatically expand the hospital’s capacity and capabilities. Key features include:
· 50 additional beds, significantly easing patient load.
· Advanced critical care with a 10-bed ICU and a 6-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU).
· Specialized wards, including a 24-bed isolation ward and dedicated beds for dialysis and maternal & child health (MCH).
· Modern surgical facilities, comprising two state-of-the-art operation theatres.
· Enhanced patient care with two Labour-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) rooms and a point-of-care laboratory for rapid diagnostics.
To staff this vital new facility, approximately 30 new positions for doctors and paramedical staff will be created, ensuring the unit is fully equipped to provide round-the-clock, high-quality care.
This investment represents more than just new infrastructure; it is a commitment to saving lives, reducing hardship, and building a healthier, more resilient community in Bhoranj.
